WHO IS DANA KALMEY (pronounced *kal-mee)?

As a lifelong soccer player and athlete, I’ve been drawn to the sports world in my filmmaking.

Today, I’m producing and providing filmmaking services for sports industry clients while directing two sports documentaries.

  • THE LAST 90 MINUTES (DOC NYC Only In New York 2019, Filmmakers Legal Clinic), a personally-inspired, long-form documentary about my college women’s soccer team and coach.

  • TANDEM (DOC NYC Only In New York 2020, Filmmakers Legal Clinic), a long-form documentary featuring the forgotten sport of tandem surfing through the eyes of pioneering, world champion tandem surfers, Kalani Vierra and Krystl Apeles.

Clients to date include global, national, local, and startup organizations such as NFL Films, Nike, Blue Cross Blue Shield, New York University, The Citadel: The Military College of South Carolina Football Team, Salty Features, Kauai Lifeguard Association, Honolulu Civil Beat, Stone Lantern Films, Vacant Light, Big Mouth Productions, mindbodygreen, and Max Miller Media, amongst others.

My film roster includes roles on the Sundance and Peabody Award-winning, TRAPPED, Sundance Award-winning E-TEAM, (DIS)HONESTY - THE TRUTH ABOUT LIES, WELL GROOMED, BACKPACK FULL OF CASH (narrated by Matt Damon), and 7 BEATS PER MINUTE (Tribeca Creators Market 2021, Tribeca All Access 2020, CNEX 2020 Highest International Potential Award). My work has been broadcast nationwide and internationally, and can be found streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO Max. I am a 2017 Impact Partners Producing Fellow, a 2019 newportFILM Documentary Cinematography Lab Fellow, and a recurring guest speaker at New York University focusing on the art of the documentary interview.

Teamwork, athleticism, humor, and culture drive me in film, life, and play as I strive to create inspiring, eye-opening stories and share them with viewers worldwide. Developing trust and connecting deeply with the people I film and work with is vitally important to me.

Before journeying into film, I worked in architecture and was an integral part of the team that completed Midtown Crossing at Turner Park, a million-square-foot, multi-use revitalization project in Omaha, Nebraska. At the same time, I was the Assistant Coach for the scholarship-granting Women’s Soccer Team at Philadelphia University. I am also a former volunteer teacher with The Green Gecko Project in Siem Reap, Cambodia, the Architecture in Education program in Philadelphia, PA, and America SCORES in New York, NY.

I hold a MFA in Social Documentary Film from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and a Bachelor of Architecture from Philadelphia University.

Thank you for reading! Let’s create something together…

Aloha!

Dana
